Saddle River, founded in 1702, is a Borough in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 3,201. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 5.0 mi².

History
Saddle River Township was one of the earliest townshipws within Bergen County. Several new townships had been partitioned off in the nineteenth century, and after 1894's Boroughitis craze, several boroughs (Glen Rock and Lodi in 1894; Wallington in 1895; Garfield in 1896; East Paterson in 1916-17; and Fair Lawn in 1924). The remaining portion of Saddle River Township was renamed as Saddle Brook, which adopted its current name by a referendum passed on November 8, 1955.
The borough is named after the Saddle River, which flows through the borough and is a tributary of the Passaic River.
